The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a New Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The buzz surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it kicked off the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—traits that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also famously permissive, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in multiple ways, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
